My ridiculously extensive and retarded guide to Killzone 2's Multiplayer which is based on both fact and my stupid opinion

Post by Lady_Scout on Thu May 27, 2010 2:31 am

NOTE: Right. Long title. I'm not mentioning the DLC. Those maps are only for fun, IMO. Btw, I am not putting up the weapons. You can look those up. I cba to resize and upload them. They're on the Interwebz anyway.

Information by Killzone.com.

Getting started

Alright. First off, you need to get started. On the main menu, go to the tab labeled Warzone. It should have a page pop up asking for what region you live in. Select the one that is you and continue. You will not need to do this afterward, it's just once. Be honest. NEXT! There's a few tabs you have. Statistics, Join Game, Clan, etc. If you're new, you won't have access to the Clan tab. Don't worry. You will after ranking up a bit.

Searching for a game

Right, go to Join Game. There are two tabs if you're new. One is your custom search and the other lists friends who are playing in a match. On custom search, pick the settings you want.

NOTE: It is advisable to have a Yes at My Rank Only. Joining a game is very difficult if not due to many matches your rank may not qualify for. This is because the people who created the match selected only players around their rank may join/play it.

Also, you may select maps. Picking Killzone 2 Originals means you play all the maps aside from those in the DLC.

After pressing search, you should be brought to a page with a list and a panel of info on the side. The list shows the name of the match and how many players occupying it (usually a bit inaccurate). The panel shows the rules of the match such as what game mode, badges that are allowed, what maps, and other things like if Friendly Fire is on. Take a good look at it and decide whether or not you want to join.

NOTE: "Warzone" games mean the creator had used a preset game type. These are five minute sessions of each game mode that exists. Some other game modes are created such as long games. The creators had used the highest settings for each game mode. I do not recommend playing them because you'll need to take a break in the middle of it. However, you can get a lot of points from it.

HUD
On the top left corner is your radar and on the top right corner is a little scoreboard. This scoreboard shows your name, rank, score, and place on the team. It also displays the progress of the current objectives, match wins, and time left. In the lower left should be your health bar, sprint bar, and directional button commands. The left and right directional buttons are abilities, the up one is grenades. The lower right shows your ammo.

Controls
I'm only showing you the default controls. They're a bit different from those in Call of Duty and have a slightly heavier feel. There's an option to reduce that but I don't use it.

  • Left analog stick- Move
  • L3- Sprint
  • Right analog stick- Move camera/look around
  • R3- Zoom in/Aim
  • L1- Melee
  • L2- Crouch
  • R1- Fire (Um... DUH)
  • R2- Throw grenade
  • Triangle- Switch weapons
  • Square- Reload
  • Circle- Interact
  • X- Jump
  • Left directional button- Primary ability
  • Up directional button- Grenade
  • Right directional button- Secondary ability

Game Modes
There are only five game modes but who cares? They're fun (sometimes).

Your basic team deathmatch. Kill as many as you can until your (or the other) team reaches the score limit or the match reaches the time limit. Also known as BC.

Basically a domination type mode but no points for capturing it. A meter will pop up showing who it belongs to or if it's neutral and how its allegiance changes. If you stand next to the antenna, you can listen to some guys giving a speech about whatever. It tends to be very chaotic but super fun as well! Teams can spawn at these locations depending on who has control over the area. Also known as C&H.

A player from either team is picked to be the target. That player must be protected by his or her team. The other team is supposed to kill him or her. If the player is down, the game is not over. He or she must be beyond revival state/forced to respawn. They must also stay within the highlighted area on the map to begin officially or else you'll have to hold out in your spawn during a much longer time limit.

There is one propaganda speaker (the objective) that the teams must vie for. Once taken, the carrier must take it to a location on the map that is highlighted on our screen. That location is close to the enemies' spawn to make it more difficult. Also known as S&R.

Two targets must be destroyed or defended. The offensive team must plant the explosives before the time limit is reached. In order to reach the countdown for them, both sites must have an explosive planted. This is one of the most chaotic game modes like C&H. Also known as S&D if you couldn't figure it out.

NOTE: S&D and Assassination are each played twice in a Warzone game to alternate between offensive and defensive teams.

Maps
I cba to make my own descriptions or show pictures. Just look at these links.

Pyrrhus Rise
Salamun Market
Helghan Industries
Visari Hammer
Radec Academy
Tharsis Depot
Blood Gracht
Corinth Crossing

Ranks
There aren't a lot but some take forever to get to. Especially the last one.

Ranks and Unlocks
Private- None, 0 pts
Corporal- Create a Squad Ability (I will explain after Ranks), 30 pts
Sergeant- Create a Clan Ability, 100 pts
Sergeant 1st class- SMG and Shotgun for Standard Soldier, 200 pts
Master Sergeant- Medic Badge (Badges will be explained later), 350 pts
Sergeant Major- HGH + ISA LMG for Standard Soldier, 550 pts
Lieutenant- Engineer Badge, 800 pts
Captain- VC9 ML for Standard Soldier, 1100 pts
Major- Tactician Badge, 1450 pts
Lieutenant Colonel- Assault Badge, 1850 pts
Colonel- Saboteur Badge, 2300 pts
General- Scout Badge, 2800 pts
Brigade General- None, 5000 pts
General of the Army- None, 10k pts
Commander in Chief- None, 100k pts

NOTE: The last three were added in as an update after a lot of people got bored at General because they got there so fast. Also, I also put up the amount of points you need to obtain each rank. Example- You need 2300 points TOTAL to reach the rank of Colonel.

Honor Ranks
These are little ribbons thingys that form a coloured border around your rank in-game. It's just for show off plus a trophy if you never got it before. They are based on your score during the week. After a week of having it on, they are taken away unless you get the same/higher/lower in that week you have it on.

Top 1%- General of the Army
Top 3%- Major General
Top 6%- Lieutenant General
Top 10%- Brigadier General

NOTE: Look up your rank for the week and divide by the number of players. This should give an approximate percentage of where you are that week. I think only Killzone.com shows how many players there were.

Squads
Alright, Squads. There are six: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, and Foxtrot. Each one has at most four members. The leader of the squad is a moving spawn point that may be selected on the spawning page. You have a private chat channel which means your squad can hear you no matter what end of the map you're on but that doesn't mean the enemy can't hear you unless you muted them. Clan members and friends are automatically sorted into your squad and team. You can create or join a squad by pressing R1 to reach the appropriate tab in the spawning page or the menu before the game starts. It shows up in the scoreboard as a tab in-game.

Clans
Clans are basically a group of people that battle in matches against other clans. KZ2 actually has a PROPER CLAN SYSTEM. Each clan has their own clan tag that YOU can't change. Leaders and Officers recruit and kick members. You can retire if you want to. There are actual set up clan matches. You or the other clan plan the map, date, time, etc. Then either another clan or yours accept/decline it. They expect you to show up. All wins, losses, etc. are saved in the system. What system you ask? The system that runs KZ2's MP and links it to Killzone.com.

Badges
Admit it. You wanted to know about these so desperately and was waiting for it. Even if you're not, whatever.

Each badge has a primary and secondary ability. To understand it fully means to know how the Medals & Ribbons system works. I'm putting it after this.

Standard Soldier: Okay, you get no abilities but a wider range of weapons. Wider range of weapons= EVERYTHING except the sniper rifle and Saboteur weapons

Medic: Primary- You get a defibrillator! That means you get to zap your downed teammates so they can be revived/stand up again. Oh, and there's also a funny trick. You can use the defibrillator as a side arm. You heard me right. Although there is a limited distance, you can kill enemies with it. A lot more efficient than the crappy pistol they give you in the start.
Secondary- Med packs. They heal you to full health. It also shows little health bars above your teammates' heads.
You use either the STA-52 or M82 Assault Rifles and STA-18 (POS) or M4 Revolver (1 hit kill OMFG).

Engineer: Primary- You get to build bots! Each team is limited to 4. They are AI controlled and are stationary ON THE GROUND.
Secondary- Repair stuff! Notice the broken boxes and turrets around the map? Fix them and help your team. Enemies can't use them unless they destroy it and their Engineers fix it. You can also repair damaged bots.
You use the LS13 Shotgun (Quite powerful and a good bit of range) and the STA-18 or M4 Revolver.

Tactician: Primary- Throw Spawn Grenades! These nifty tools allow you to put down a spawn point at any point on the map! They have green smoke for your team and orange for the enemy. Each team gets 2.
Secondary- Flying bots. At first, they were wimpy. After an update, they're one of my worst nightmares. Each team gets 2.
You use the STA-52 or M82 Assault Rifles and the STA-18 or M4 Revolver.

Assault: Primary- Extra armour. Have fun.
Secondary- Boost. In other words, the ability to run-around-like-a-hyper-kid-on-too-much-sugar-and-cocaine-while-healing-yourself.
You use the VC9 or M80 Rocket Launcher or the M327 Grenade Launcher and STA-18 or M4 Revolver.

Saboteur: Primary- Disguise as one of the enemy team with one of their usernames. Your teammates don't see the cloak but enemies do and your screen has a slight black blur around the edge. I'll teach you how to counter them.
Secondary- C4. Well, more like proximity mines. Each team gets 4. It takes pretty much 3 or 4 just to take out one person.
You use the STA-11 SMG or STA-14 Rifle and the STA-18 or M4 Revolver.

Scout: Primary- Harry Potter's Invisibility Cloak. Joking but the last two words are true. However, you become visible the more you move. It turns your screen blue and disappears after you injure someone.
Secondary- Spot & Mark. The ultimate weapon. It scans everything you see on your screen and marks the locations of enemies even if they're bots. The best part is that it also marks other scouts. But this also means they can mark you.
You use the VC32 Sniper Rifle and the STA-18 or M4 Revolver.

In the game
Welcome to Killzone 2's Multiplayer. You are either going to get slaughtered or become a freaking god. Even if you read this guide, you still are going to be slaughtered some time.

The menu before officially joining the game. Some tabs are at the top. The first is Overview which is explained a little further down this guide.

Next is Character where you can select your class, abilities, and weapons. After that is Factions where it shows who is who on each team (HGH and ISA). The last is Squads.

The Spawn Screen is similar. You are taken to the Spawn map where you can select your spawn. Next is Characters, then Score Overview, and finally Squads.

On the main page, it shows you the information listed when you searched for it. There is also a list of players on the side with an emblem indicated what team they're on. The guy at the top is the host but fortunately, this game doesn't lag much (anymore after fixing the servers). The white circle thing is the ISA logo and the red-back triad is the Helghast (HGH). You can mute all of them (which follows through into the next game) and they won't be able to hear you either. The funny thing about mics is that they are based on proximity, not your team unless you're in a squad (scroll down to understand). Both enemies and teammates can hear you if you are within a certain distance from them.

There is one area for spawns unless your team has a Tactician and you have a different spawn but that one usually gets spawn camped the hell out of it. Stationary bots are guarding that area. If they are destroyed, they respawn after a period of time.

Some objects are destructible. Such as a table (don't bother taking cover behind it) or pillars that chip off to reveal their foundation. Be aware of red barrels. "Really? What do they do?" Don't ask that question. You need to play more games if you don't know.

Hey, did I mention walking through bots actually kills you? No? Well, they do. And they count as a suicide! So does blowing up ammo boxes or turrets too closely.

When you are down, you have 10 seconds to wait until you have a choice to respawn or you can decide not to. You can't be revived if you don't have a little countdown window because you're dead. You can't listen to people with mics either. If you're the one alive, you can hear downed people crying their heads off or screaming "MEDIC!!!!" I always laugh at these guys. When you respawn, you have a few seconds of invincibility before being vulnerable.

The radar. You need it. It's very important. Not only does it show enemies as red dots and your team as red dots, but it also shows you downed players. Red crosses for enemies and green for teammates. There are also little symbols in green, red, or white that show you where the objective is aside from the regular annoying one on your screen. White means neutral if you don't know.

At the end of the game, it shows you your score and how much it adds to your overall score. There's also what ribbons you earned, etc. The winning team gets their scores multiplied by 1.5.

My World of Killzone
This part is my view on EVERYTHING. Well, almost everything. I'll use this in the same order as this guide is put in for convenience.

Looking for games is such a pain during certain times of the day. The system is a bit inaccurate when showing the number of players but I still look for the ones with a higher number of players. The more players, the more fun. I also love the newbies who don't know how to make games. They make one saying "NEWBIES ONLY" and they don't put the rank restriction on it! I join and just start a little round of pwnage. Those games are sometimes filled with loads of high ranked players hoping for newbies to slaughter though Sad

Some game modes are uber boring. Like Body Count. But BC is good for ranking up early on. Like Call of Duty, just killing people makes me soooo bored. That's why I only play Warzone games unless I'm joining a friend. Capture and Hold is one of my favorites. It just gets so chaotic sometimes. It's a bit of spawn camping but loads of points because we're all inside of the objective area!

Assassination always gives me an excuse to dress up as a Scout. It just feels more badass. I've sniped a moving target through a tiny crack before but that was after missing ten million times and forgetting to finish him off so I never got the credit. There's also one time I was using my M82 to shoot the target from really high up. Of course, I had to face against some guys trying to shoot me with their own weapons or the turret and one guy with a rocket launcher. I still got the guy in the end! ANYWAY, I rarely survive as a target but then again, I don't get picked as the target a lot either. Such a pain. Almost got blown up by a suicidal Assault once too. Medics are extremely important in this game mode.

S&D is also super chaotic. Everyone has rushed over to the place where the teams either attack or defend. Tacticians deploy spawn points. Bots are everywhere. Rockets and bullets are flying and the grenades are literally doing that. You have little to no chance of actually getting to the target but if your luck holds out, you can. S&R is one of my least favorites but it can be fun sometimes. Some a-holes will camp in their spawns with the speaker. There's bots surrounding the return locations plus spawn nades. People are chasing the guy with the speaker. The guy with it is usually an Assault boosting around. So annoying.

Ranks. Everyone knows the top 20 guys have no life at all. The last rank is going to take forever to reach unless you're really good and play everyday. The highest Hornor Rank I reached is the top 3%. Medals & Ribbons. Some are just so hard to get. I don't have all of them...

I used to be in a clan and played in actual clan matches. I didn't really have the time to participate in all of them so I just left. It's a very nice system though.

Badges. OMG I LOVE THE MEDIC AND SCOUT SO MUCH. The Medic is my primary class and zapping guys are so brilliant. It's just awesome!

Except there are these idiots who don't know when to revive someone. Like in the middle of a firefight. "Oh look, someone's down! Let me revive them!" *two seconds later* Revived person dies again.

The Scout... sniping is so fun in this game. Especially how some very stupid snipers think just because they can be invisible, it means they can stand in the open and snipe. I mark them and shoot them. Some of them go back to the same place every time. It is so easy. Here's a story: I join a game where it's snipers only. These four guys are either really good or autoaiming and I'm the only good sniper on my team. They won the game but I won personally. I actually got more kills than their top guy even though I died quite a few times. How? Because I switched my location after every kill. They kept coming back to the same spot. That is a tip.

Assault guys are so annoying. Only the suicidal rocket ones. End of story. I also hate Engineers sometimes, it's the long range shotguns. And their bots. I hate bots more than anything else. Ugh, don't get me started on it...

Some Tacticians need to learn how to place spawn points properly. When throwing the nade, your back faces the direction people spawn. Not the other way around. Go figure.

Saboteurs
This subject needs its own little section. Saboteurs are really sneaky. Here, I will teach you how to counter them. It's actually useful.

Saboteurs in disguise have some distinguishing characteristics. As a full blown Medic, they don't have health bars above their heads. As a Scout, they get marked. In appearence, they are always in the form of a Standard Soldier. You should notice that the real ISA have blue glowing tags and the real Helghasts have red glowing eyes. Saboteurs have none of these lights. They don't show up as a green dot on your radar either. If you get a good look, they also use weapons that are not available to Standard Soldiers. Saboteurs also use a random name from a player on your team. It might just so happen have the same name as the guy next to you. These names are different on everyone's screen and are never your own.

Oh hey, Medic Primary/Engineer Secondary is my points fest class.

That is the end of this section but I might add onto it from time to time.

Effing done. Post away people.
